What makes The Young Christians' Guitar Method different? Well, there is the obvious Christian world view that permeates this series, but there is quite a lot more. Decades of experience have demonstrated that some musical ideas are not necessarily best suited to the learning order put forth in the majority of guitar texts. This set of books starts with what can be done by the beginner and is progressive in terms of difficulty as strength and understanding accumulate. The familiarity of the material makes it easier and more fun to play. The text is deliberately done in an un-cramped style and important criteria is emphasized and not easily over-looked. The pace encourages progressing to the next level and is designed so that the beginner is not discouraged by an endless methodology and looks forward to the ascension of the next text. We believe that our research has crafted a truly unique set of books that retain classic music instruction and deliberate deviations from the status quo. Although there is no age limit, these books are particularly well-suited to children.
The 1st book in this series understands the obstacles that the young beginner faces and starts with that in mind. But by the book's end the student will have learned the fundamentals of reading music and playing single-note melodies across all 6 strings. The instructor will appreciate the timely reviews and extremely clear instructions (this will help keep the student from getting bogged down between lessons). "This Little Light of Mine", "Jesus Loves Me" and "The B-i-b-l-e" are some of the included songs. Encouragement and pertinent Scripture are a staple of the series.

Book Two expands upon the single-note melodies with the thorough introduction of different keys and other note values. This new information makes it possible to play songs like "Joshua Fought the Battle of Jericho" and "Down by the Riverside". But it most strongly progresses with its comprehensive and inventive presentation of chords. Here chords are not merely seen as fretboard constellations, but are emphasized as specific note groupings, this often overlooked tactic is valuable to the student for present and future musical understanding. Along with the Scriptures, interesting historic references of the songs and hymn writers have been included.

Book Three dives deeper into theory with the harmonized scale, and a more exhaustive explanation of keys, while allowing more challenging songs due to eighth-note triplets and nine-eight time. Tablature is used for the 1st time in this book to supplement the manuscript. Such advanced concepts as bar-chords and arpeggio-based accompaniment styles are systematically covered. New terms are explained and reitterated in the glossary along with a fully-explained set of chord charts.
